Itinerary traced along the alleys and the historic districts of the lower part of the town, traditionally called “Borgo“, starts from Piazza del Popolo, above which is located the church of S. Rocco. We then come across the church of S. Maria dei Suffragi, then the one of S. Veneranda. Reaching Piazza dell’Ammiraglio you arrive at the Church of S. Giovanni. Palazzo Marangoni is a point of great interest for the community, and in the future an attraction and cultural hub, in the middle of a still in progress project of museum. By going back to the so-called “ciampa” or Piazza S. Giacomo, with its horseshoe shape, that offers a terrace overlooking the valley, which is another panoramic point of the town, you will find the Mother Church of S. Giacomo Apostolo, dedicated to the patron saint, which enjoys a predominant importance for the entire religious community, devoted and proud of the twinning between the church and the Spanish cathedral of Santiago de Compostela and the privileges associated with it. Going up towards Colle Armo, along ancient streets that climb up the rock, even from the lower district you reach the Sanctuary of the Assumption that can be considered one extremity of the itinerary; however, the route could also ideally find its conclusion with the convent of the Immaculate inhabited by the order of the Sisters of St. Vincent, another point of reference for the lower district and placed in one of the lowest points of the town. The itinerary develops itself mainly between the places of faith that are also the main containers of works of artistic value and through the walks in the historical center you can admire picturesque streets and alleys.
