The cliff of Lauria’s old FCL station was inaugurated by a great climber. Maurizio Zanolla the Italian free climbing pioneer, better known as Manolo, is a mountain guide and a great expert of the rocky nature, as well as one of the most famous faces of this sport;  last July he climbed along a natural wall between the peaks of Sirino and Pollino. The stretch is challenging and exciting but at the same time fun and evocative to climb. But the emotions begin even before arriving at the cliff. To welcome the climber, immediately after leaving the car in the parking lot of the old station, there is a stretch of about 20 min that has to be covered on foot and which allows the crossing of a railway bridge surrounded by thick vegetation and followed by an abandoned gallery. The fresh and pungent air, the invasive and spontaneous colours of the nature of the place, the still visible tracks as traces left by the passage of history motivate the climber; the motivation brings about the desire to become part of that place through the reach of its highest point. The cliff under consideration has as many as 20 lines with taps and fixes with a degree of difficulty ranging from 4a up to 6c+. It is advisable to climb the cliff at Lauria’s Old Station under the supervision of experts. To organize your best trip and climbing activity at best, you can contact Appennino Travel. Previous Next
